NYPOST.COM National News: STARBUCKS YANKS AD MOCKING 9/11
In my opinion, that headline is grossly inappropriate. It explicitly implies that it was a deliberate innuendo by Starbucks. While advertising is full of deliberate innuendo, and oftentimes that innuendo is considered in poor taste by somebody, I highly doubt that Starbucks was trying to reach a target market who'd think that's 'cool'. After all, that market would be extremely narrow - particularly in Manhattan, and the reason Starbucks advertises is to sell their product and make more money, not piss half the nation off so less people favour Starbucks with their custom.
I think it's safe to say that it was an honest mistake & oversight. At worst, an extremely far-fetched possibility is that some overworked designer had subconscious influences take part in the mishap. I can't believe the entire marketing department was conspiring.
For the love of mike, it's just 2 drinks & a dragonfly... and there was nothing low in temperature about the site of the WTC in Manhattan on Sept. 11th. The imagery correlation only goes so far.
