Air Sickness Bag Virtual Museum "Air Sickness Bags are art One can tell a lot about an airline's image from their Air Sickness Bags. Some barf bags are no more than a baggie with a twist tie, while other sickbags could win international design competitions. Are they art? I think so. You decide."
Apparently this has been around for quite awhile. I couldn't find an example of the mail-in film packet air sickness bag though. Maybe they're not in use yet.
CNN.com - Study: Sleeping position reveals personality - Sep. 16, 2003 "The freefall, flat on the tummy with the hands at the sides of the head, is the most unusual position. Only 6.5 percent of people prefer it and they are usually brash and gregarious."
This is how I sleep... and they're right-on.
I had to visit the courthouse on Friday, and they put my handbag through the x-ray machine:
The woman said, "You have a lot of metal in your bag, so I'm sorry but I'm going to have to look through it." heh.
The blue is metal, the green is glass, and the orange is just anything else I guess.
xradiograph.com : September 14, 2003 - 10:01 AM "Okay, I accidentally opened spam called "Remove cellulite!" and found this bizarre beautiful hakui-like verbiage..." xradiograph has got to be the only blog that posts spam as if it was a work of art. I may make fun of it once in awhile, but I've yet to find any actual beauty in it. heh.
AAA World : September/October 2003 - Not Just Another Song and Dance In the last few years, movies from India have captivated American audiences--especially critical favorites like Lagaan and Monsoon Wedding. American movies like Ghost World and Moulin Rouge have also given nods to Indian cinema. Andrew Lloyd Weber's Bombay Dreams brought Bollywood to the stage in London and is scheduled to open on Broadway. In case you haven't noticed, Bollywood is all the rage...
You can enter this dream world without enduring the long flight to India at the Strand Theater in Plainfield, New Jersey. While several multiplexes occasionally show an Indian film in addition to Hollywood movies, the Strand is a 1,400 seat single-screen venue dedicated to showcasing Bollywood.
I had no idea there were any cinemas dedicated only to Indian films. I'll have to check the place out sometime... Since it's only probably about a 2 hour drive away.
The song that was used in the opening of Ghost World was Mohammed Rafi's song, "Jann Pehechaan Ho". I used this in my puppet show, that I wrote back in January. Captain Nightly the Paranoid Pirate.
I first heard the song in 1995, when my pal Brian Turner, brought a video over to my apartment containing the Indian film from 1965 called, Gumnaam. It contained a dance number set to "Jann Pehechaan Ho". Brian said the woman in the movie reminded him of me for some reason. (Not sure I ever saw any resemblence, or if anyone else ever did either. heh.) I loved the song from that moment on though. I had it on a tape.
For a year or so after that, my friend Amy & I would always listen to that when she'd come over to my place. We'd listen to it before we went anywhere. And Amy started calling the song, "The Psyched Up for Nothin' Song". heh.
Photographic Chinese Whispers is a photography variation on the children's game, "Chinese Whispers"... or, as we called it in Girl Scouts here in Pennsylvania when I was a kiddiewink, "Gossip".
If you're not familiar with the game... one person whispers something into the ear of the person next to them. The person who just heard the whisper, whispers what they heard into the ear of the person next to them... So on and so forth. At the end, the original statement, and what the last person in the game heard, are compared. More often then not, it was a bizarre mutation of the original, and sometimes it was hilarious.
I really liked the game when I was a Girl Scout.
I was under the impression that the game was about demonstrating the pitfalls of rumours.
I'm not sure what Photographic Chinese Whispers will be demonstrating. Alison thinks it's going to be demonstrating nothing but a bunch of "pictures of door frames or something". haha.
I think it will be, at least, fun. (link via As Above)
I had to stop at a gas station in Wilkes-Barre, by the Wyoming Valley Mall before I went to the turnpike today... And I noticed a sticker on the gas pump I was using. I noticed the sticker because it said "Black Lung Brothers". It caught my eye.
And then I noticed the web site address on the sticker... www.boomspot.com. I recognized it immediately to be a web site domain of Alison's brother Dorian. Alison and her brother live in San Francisco... but they're from Wilkes-Barre. And apparently Dorian still has ties with local bands in NEPA.
CNN.com - Slip 'N Slide makers sue 'Dickie Roberts' The company is concerned that the scene might prompt adults to imitate Spade's action, which could lead to injury and lawsuits.
What adult would imitate... Wait a sec... another quote from the article... Monday's lawsuit mentions one legal action brought by a Wisconsin adult who became paralyzed after diving onto the slide while intoxicated. The plaintiff in that case was awarded $12.3 million in damages, according to Monday's lawsuit. (link via Mouse Droppings)
John B., Chloe K., Michael P. & Vanessa N., August 17th 2001 xradiograph - Umbrella Hat Pictures "real performance artists wear umbrella hats as evidenced by these genuine, un-retouched photos of REAL performance artists"
I feel compelled to make the point that though I am in this photo, I am not in fact a performance artist. I'm not a performing anything. In fact, I'm usually on the other side of the camera.
How did I end up in this photo? That night in August 2001, at the AFA Gallery after an Alternative to Noise event, Dave made me put on the umbrella hat he got from his car. He was wearing one too, but took his off because John S. wanted to wear it. John wound up in the picture when Dave then grabbed my camera from me to take a photo - the photo in question. And that's why there seems to be some discrepency about who took the photo. I have credited Dave L. on the Watermelon Punch posting, whereas Michael P. has credited John B. on the xradiograph posting. John B. may have been there that night, but he definitely didn't take the photo... because, for reasons I won't go into, he would not have used my camera, and I probably wouldn't have let him even if he wanted to. heh.
I also feel compelled to mention that better photos of me do exist. More recent photos of me exist - like from January 2003 and July 2003.
And, a better photo of me wearing a hat also exists.
And I have other photos involving umbrellas too.
This one which I took last summer: Paul w/ umbrella, June 6th 2002
And this one I took on my birthday last year in Mexico: Raul the Chichen Itza tour guide w/ umbrella, October 7th 2002
I will say though that Michael's umbrella hat photo collection is more inventive than my middle finger collection, but I say it's not as gutsy! heh.
My sister Joanie showed me this web site's flash intro a year or so ago and I forgot about it, but the Food Blog has a link to it now. California Beef Council
I don't know, I think it's kind of funny... but somehow just wrong. heh. (link via Food Blog)
