John B., Chloe K., Michael P. & Vanessa N., August 17th 2001 xradiograph - Umbrella Hat Pictures "real performance artists wear umbrella hats as evidenced by these genuine, un-retouched photos of REAL performance artists"
I feel compelled to make the point that though I am in this photo, I am not in fact a performance artist. I'm not a performing anything. In fact, I'm usually on the other side of the camera.
How did I end up in this photo? That night in August 2001, at the AFA Gallery after an Alternative to Noise event, Dave made me put on the umbrella hat he got from his car. He was wearing one too, but took his off because John S. wanted to wear it. John wound up in the picture when Dave then grabbed my camera from me to take a photo - the photo in question. And that's why there seems to be some discrepency about who took the photo. I have credited Dave L. on the Watermelon Punch posting, whereas Michael P. has credited John B. on the xradiograph posting. John B. may have been there that night, but he definitely didn't take the photo... because, for reasons I won't go into, he would not have used my camera, and I probably wouldn't have let him even if he wanted to. heh.
I also feel compelled to mention that better photos of me do exist. More recent photos of me exist - like from January 2003 and July 2003.
And, a better photo of me wearing a hat also exists.
And I have other photos involving umbrellas too.
This one which I took last summer: Paul w/ umbrella, June 6th 2002
And this one I took on my birthday last year in Mexico: Raul the Chichen Itza tour guide w/ umbrella, October 7th 2002
I will say though that Michael's umbrella hat photo collection is more inventive than my middle finger collection, but I say it's not as gutsy! heh.
