Keith Martin criticized for his past association with a firm that dealt in illegal arms to Iraq
.........................
I'll admit, a month ago I didn't even know Keith Martin was a miltary man. I certainly didn't know about his history in Lancaster, or why he left there in 1990. I just knew of him as a news guy on WBRE TV.
......................... PennLive.com - Rendell's security nominee challenged "Gov. Ed Rendell's choice to head the state's Department of Homeland Security resigned from a Lancaster TV station in 1990 after it was revealed he was consulting for an arms dealer that was illegally funneling weapons to Iraq.
Some of those weapons ended up being used against American soldiers during the Gulf War.
Keith Martin, the former managing editor and nightly anchor for WGAL Channel 8, resigned after it was learned he accepted $10,000 from International Signal and Control of Lancaster to counsel the then-embattled company on how to handle media relations."
.........................
I looked around to find other news articles about this matter, but all I found on the internet was this opinion column from the Philadelphia Daily News: Philadelphia Daily News | 02/24/2003 | John Baer | Is the 'Rendell Revolution' sputtering? "A worse pick, Scranton TV guy Keith Martin for homeland security, is drawing fire for serving some years back as a paid consultant to a firm busted for illegal arms sales to Iraq."
.........................
I thought certainly there must be some local news coverage, but this is the only piece I was able to find in the local news that was even about Keith Martin - an opinion column in the Times Leader: Times Leader | 02/21/2003 | Choice of style over substance is wrong move "Martin has no counterterrorism experience."

I was surprised that Mr. Iseman of the Times Leader didn't mention it in his column, considering he was critical of Mr. Martin's appiontment to the position.

I think the reason why we have not seen any negative press is the simple fact that when Keith Martin was nominated to head this project it was such a positive thing for Scranton and all of NEPA that perhaps just for once people in the media decided to embrace that point and let the past, though negative as it may be, behind. I mean look at Martin's track record and I think think speaks for itself. I always thought if he did get into local politics or ever state wide he would do a bang up job. He is a great public speaker and really knows how motivate people. This may be a stepping stone to a very long a fruitful political career for this Scranton native.

I didn't think he was a Scranton native. Personally, I don't think his nomination was positive... but that's just my opinion. Though to be honest, in my opinion, the office is a joke.
Mr. Iseman e-mailed me saying that the Times Leader DID mention this "arms link" in two stories. But I never saw them, so maybe they were not published on-line?
