What I would have given to read the minds of some of my fellow audience members as I watched Cabaret, this past Sunday, at the F.M. Kirby Center. An outstanding performance by Christopher Sloan (Emcee), such an amazing voice and what presence, what projection, truly he stole the show... and why not, after all his character was made for it. Allison Spratt was perfectly cast (Sally Bowles) and hearing her sing Cabaret, it was so moving. The song is one of my favorite broadway tunes of all time. The music, the dancing, the costumes and the gasps from the audience... how utterly shocking one woman said. Shocking? No, it was a wonderful night of entertainment; a magical feast for the senses. I have to ask, what did one expect to see on entering the theater with a play called Cabaret? Life, love and politics could not have been presented any finer. Money, I Don't Care Much and Cabaret were without a doubt the three best songs of the night. And I hope the play returns next year.
