June 2003
Miles Of Mules

more info | official web site

I am obsessed with Miles Of Mules. If only I could have one for my back yard. Here are some up and coming Miles Of Mules events that you should attend.

First Friday in Jim Thorpe Meet "Pop Jones"
Friday, June 6 4:00-5:30 pm
Visitor Center Entrance at RR Station in Jim Thorpe

Jill Elizabeth, founder of the popular "Liztech" Jewelry line will be on hand as her creation, "Pop Jones," is unveiled and installed at the Carbon County Visitor Center. Pop is whimsically encrusted with thousands of mosaic tile pieces and features a vein of real anthracite coal and a mirrored "canal towpath." This mule is a tribute to the artist's grandfather who worked in the coal mines of Lackawanna County as a muleskinner. Allen Sachse, Executive Director of the Delaware & Lehigh NHC, is the mule sponsor. Opportunity for Participation: The artist has compiled a book that features photos and comments from people who assisted in Pop's creation. Attendees will have the opportunity to have their photo and comments added to the book. Refreshments will be served. The mule sponsor will also attend.

A Mule on Race Street
Throughout the Month of June
Race Street Park in Historic Jim Thorpe

Renowned Jim Thorpe Artist David Price will create "Packer Mule" in full public view. This mule is sponsore by the Jim Thorpe Rotary, Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce and Mauch Chunk Trust Company. The mule will be auctioned in November to benefit the Mauch Chunk Historical Society.
